The brief

The Walton Centre NHS Foundation Trust is an independent specialist neurosciences NHS Trust hospital providing a high quality, integrated and multidisciplinary neurosciences service to Merseyside, North Wales, the Isle of Man and part of West Lancashire which totals a population of 3.5 million.

The Walton Centre is adjacent to the Aintree University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust which is a busy District General Hospital Trust located 6 miles from the centre of Liverpool.

The Walton Centre is based in a purpose built building, opened in 1998.

It is virtually self-contained and has 150 beds (including an 8 bedded day ward and a hyper acute rehabilitation ward with 10 beds.

Critical care facilities comprise a 16 bedded dedicated Neuro-Intensive Care Unit and a 4 bedded high dependency area.

A satellite unit for radiation oncology on the Walton site opened in February 2011 which includes a stereotactic radiotherapy/radiosurgery facility.

The Trust is organised into two clinical divisions; division of neurosurgery, critical care, anaesthesia, pain and neuropathology and the division of neurology, neurorehabilitation, neuroradiology, neurophysiology and pharmacy.

The Trust is looking to undertake a service transformation programme in order to generate more theatre and ward capacity and to ensure other key productivity measures are all achieved at the highest standards.

This procurement is packaged into two individual projects (patient pathway review and theatre utilisation review) for which the Supplier will be expected to provide individual costs, however due to the inter-dependencies of the projects, bids will be evaluated as one package and therefore only one Supplier will be appointed.
