The National Physical Laboratory (NPL) requirement is for an apparatus for realising the argon triple point, -189.3442 °C, to move away from labour-intensive operation of manual systems through largely automated realisation of the fixed-point with the following mandatory requirements: - Uncertainty of less than or equal to 0.25 mK - Reproducibility of less than or equal to 0.2 mK - Plateau duration of more than 10 hours - immersion depth of at least 400 mm
