The brief

Harrow Council wishes to commission an Independent Visitors Service for children and young people to provide one to one support for children looked after.

Young people who are in care often experience a lot of disruption in their lives, an Independent Visitor is there to befriend a young person, offering them consistency, support, advice and encouragement throughout the time they are in care and often beyond this time.

Harrow Council would like you to build on the strength of the community by recruiting volunteers to support young people in care.

Volunteers are crucial to the success to this service, by working alongside local authority staff and other professionals you will ensure that children considered being vulnerable are visited regularly and supported through this service.

This service will therefore focus on providing additional resources to young people to meet their needs and build young people's confidence in their ability to handle times of change, challenge or crisis.

The Independent Visitor will encourage the child/ young people to exercise their rights to participate in decision making and will strengthen their independent skills by offering advocacy and building on supporting themselves and from their own extended network.

Harrow Council wants to attract dynamic organisations to deliver this high quality service for our children and young people in Harrow.
