The brief

Saffron Walden Town Council requires a fixed price quotation for a tree survey at Bridge End Garden in Saffron Walden CB10 1BT of approximately 260 trees.

In addition, there are freestanding espaliers in the Walled Garden that need plotting and surveying.

Fruit trees against the walls do not need surveying.

The purpose of the survey is to develop a Tree Strategy for this historic garden and identify Root Protection Areas to help plan possible improvements to the path system and to assess future impact of root systems on structures and historic walls etc.

The trees were surveyed in 1999 and a DWG file will be made available of the plan of the survey.

In 2016 a volunteer made an inventory of the trees and prepared the attached schedule.

The position of trees has been updated on the DWG file but tree canopies and actual and potential root spread were not updated.

There is a complication on the numbers in that each year there is a health and safety check on the trees.

The surveyor picks up trees of interest and often adds a new tag.

Some trees have two numbers and some have one.

For insurance reasons the trees identified as part of the H&S survey need to keep their numbers.

All trees should be given new numbers with a numbered tag and then the tree numbers should be marked up clearly on the plan.
