The specialist materials are required to meet specific needs e.g. learning disability, reminiscence therapy, speakers of other languages where English is not the first language.
Audiobooks (CD format) The library audiobook copyright for any given title is held by one publisher.
These publisher/library suppliers are Ulverscroft, WF Howes and Bolinda and they offer discount to library authorities and supply the goods serviced for library use.
There is no duplicate of supply titles across these publishers.
Any newcomers to the market offering audiobooks suitable for library use would also be considered within the budget.
Large Print The large print copyright for any given title is held by one publisher/library supplier.
These suppliers offer discount to library authorities and supply the goods serviced for library use, but there is no alternative supplier.
The current companies that offer large print to libraries are Ulverscroft and WF Howes.
There is only one other publisher of large print books called Seven House.
These books are obtainable via the contracted book supplier.
Any newcomers to the market offering large print books under the publisher/library suppler model which are suitable for library use, would also be considered within the budget.
Online Resources Online resources are not part of the book supply contract and are only available via subscription directly with the individual supplier, who offered a unique information resource.
Services subscribed to include Ancestry, Find my Past and the British Newspaper Archive.
Service subscriptions In order to provide an interlibrary loan service Derbyshire County Council subscribes to UnityUK.
UnityUK provides a national inter-library loans system that gives access to the holdings of majority of UK libraries and provides an integrated fee-management service.
Newspapers/periodicals (hardcopy) Newspapers/periodicals are not part of the book supply contract Newspapers and periodicals are purchased from local newsagents which is both cost effective and supports local Derbyshire small businesses.
Specialist Periodicals are only available via subscription and are purchased directly with the individual supplier.
We subscribe to mainly local studies/history related periodicals.
